Levelling and mastering sprites

Why the last level is the whole job, and how to skip most of it.

A sprite gets stronger as it levels, and mastering one is what unlocks its further variants. Every sprite levels the same way except two, and those two are the ones people get stuck on — Crown, which ignores everything but winning, and Klombo, which ignores everything but eating. Both have a route that is far shorter than the obvious one.

Every level costs double the last

This is the single most useful thing to know about sprite levelling, and it is why progress feels fine and then stops. Each level needs twice the experience of the one before it: if the first costs X, the second costs 2X, then 4X, then 8X, then 16X.

Two consequences follow, and they change how you play. The final level costs more than every level before it put together — 16X against the 15X of the first four — so a sprite sitting one level short is not “nearly done”, it is halfway. And the whole climb comes to 31X, meaning a sprite you are grinding from scratch is roughly thirty times the work of the level that took a couple of minutes.

That is the argument for concentrating on one sprite rather than spreading experience across the several you are carrying. Five sprites at level four are, in total experience, worth substantially less than two mastered ones.

Experience comes from playing: opening containers, eliminations and assists, extracting sprites you already own, and redeeming Admin Panel codes. Eliminations are worth the most per action by a wide margin, and bot lobbies award a small fraction of what a real match does — which is what makes the two shortcuts below worth more than any amount of grinding.

How to master the Crown sprite

Crown is the one sprite that does not care what you do in a match. Per the game’s own description it only levels up by winning matches, and levels faster with Crown Wins. You need a win just to get it, and roughly three more to master it the honest way — a single victory is worth something like twelve times a first level, so the curve above is what makes three wins land rather than five.

A Royal victory masters it in one pass. Win a match while carrying the victory crown you earned from a previous win, and the sprite goes from new to mastered in that single game. If you are already holding a crown, that is the run to spend it on.

The Adventure trick

There is a way to master Crown without winning four times, and it works because of what the Adventure sprite does: it upgrades a random item in your inventory every time it levels up. The word doing the work there is random — so remove the randomness.

  1. Run Adventure alongside Crown, and level Adventure normally.
  2. When Adventure is close to its next level, drop everything in your inventory except the Crown sprite.
  3. Adventure levels, has exactly one thing left to upgrade, and upgrades Crown.

Repeat until Crown is mastered, then go and win a single match to claim it. You have replaced three or four victories with one.

How to master the Klombo sprite

Klombo grants a random item at each level and only levels up by consuming items. That one word is the whole difficulty, and it is where most people quietly waste an evening.

It must be something you CONSUME, not something you apply. Small Shield Potions, Shield Potions, Chug Jugs, Guzzle Juice, apples and fish all count. A Med Kit does not — you apply a Med Kit rather than drinking it, and no amount of using them will move the sprite. Bandages fall on the same side of that line for the same reason.

So the goal is not to stay healthy; it is to keep needing to heal. Three ways to arrange that, easiest first:

The Wonkeeland rail

Wonkeeland — north-east on the Chapter 7 Season 4 map, near Reality’s Reign — has a rail that heals you continuously while you stand on it, and Klombo levels the whole time you are on it. It is the closest thing to passive progress the sprite has.

Get your health and shields down first, or there is nothing for the rail to heal: drop from height with your glider put away until you are close to nothing, a few times over. Then stand on the rail and leave it running.

This looks like an exception to the rule above and almost certainly is not one. Nothing leaves your inventory, so the likeliest explanation is that the game counts the rail’s healing as consumption internally — the same event a Chug Jug fires, without the item. Either way it works, which is the part you can rely on.

The storm

Carry two or three Chug Jugs, walk into the storm, and drink as it takes you down. The storm is the cheapest source of damage in the game and it never runs out, so this is the method that needs no particular place on the map.

Fall damage

Drop from height with your glider put away to take yourself down to almost nothing, then drink back up, and repeat. Slower than the rail and it spends your own supplies, but it works anywhere there is height.

Track what you have mastered

Mastery is a count in Sprites Vault, not a tick — if you have mastered the same sprite more than once, the tracker holds the number instead of flattening it to “yes”. Your progress ring counts distinct sprites owned; the crown counts what you have actually mastered, so the gap between the two is your remaining work.

Every Chapter 7 Season 4 sprite and what it does lists the abilities these tricks rely on, and the tracker is free with no account needed to start.

A note on the numbers

The doubling curve and every method on this page are measured in play rather than read out of the game files. Epic does not publish the experience required per level, and the per-action figures circulating on other sites are community estimates — so this page describes the relationship between the levels, which holds whatever the underlying number turns out to be, rather than quoting a total we cannot check. The Sprite Dust costs elsewhere on this site are the opposite: those come from the game’s own data. If something here does not match what you see in a match, tell us.
